Supremus
Supremus is the second boss in Black Temple. To get to Supremus’ courtyard from High Warlord Naj’entus, simply run into the room directly opposite of the stage that High Warlord Naj’entus was standing upon before you pulled him. Kill any remaining sewer mobs as you move towards the tunnel in that room. Travel up the tunnel and stop at the courtyard opening. Once you are standing at the entrance, begin to pull the courtyard trash mobs, which are Sanctuary of Shadow trash mobs. The Supremus fight requires a great deal of space so clear a path to Supremus as well as the area around his pull spot. You will need all of the space around him (including the walls to his left and right) during the fight.
Abilities
The abilities Supremus uses are based on the phase of the fight. The two phases will be explained later. For now, here is a list of the abilities Supremus uses.
Hateful Strike: This is a melee ability that does 7,000 damage to the second highest health target within Supremus’ melee range. If there are no other targets within melee range, Supremus will use this ability on the main aggro target. This ability is used during phase one and occurs about every 5 seconds.
Molten Flame: This ability can occur in phase one and two. Every twenty seconds, Supremus sends a blue flame towards random targets. The flame does about 3,000 fire damage every second to anyone standing in the stream.
Molten Punch: Supremus knocks a player backwards for about 5,000 damage during phase two if the targeted player is too far away from Supremus when targeted.
Volcano: During phase two, Supremus summons volcanoes, which need to be dodged by players to avoid the AoE eruption. As each volcano erupts, it spews out 4,500 fire damage.
Gaze: This occurs in phase two. Supremus targets a person and chases the player for 10 seconds before switching to another target to follow for another 10 seconds. His movement speed is reduced by 90% during this time.
The Pull and Position
The tanks should run up to the boss where he is standing while the rest of the raid spreads around him. While melee classes need to be close to him, ranged classes should remain at max range from him. Save hunter misdirects for later in the fight.
Battle
The most popular strategies use two tanks for this fight so that there is an off-tank to take the hurtful strike damage. An alternate strategy uses only one tank for the fight. If this is the strategy you plan to use, remember that melee cannot be within melee range for this fight.
Phase One
As mentioned previously, Supremus has two phases that alternate during this fight. This first phase is a traditional tank and spank fight. Just be aware of the Phase One abilities such as hurtful strikes and molten flames. Depending on the tank strategy your guild uses, healers may need to adjust their healing for one tank or two tanks. As with most fights, keep the tank topped off and quickly heal the off-tank. If the off-tank is not healed quickly, a melee DPS player will take the strike instead of the off-tank. The initial Phase One lasts for about 60 seconds before switching to Phase Two.
Both Ranged and Melee DPS needs to move away from molten flames if they are within melee range for this fight. Melee needs to pay particular attention since they have less time to move than Ranged DPS does.
Phase Two
Supremus enters Phase Two by targeting a member of the raid and following the player. He follows the player for 10 seconds and then switches to the next player. The targeted player should be able to out run Supremus and needs to start moving as soon as he or she is targeted. Targeted players that don’t move will end up as floor decorations for the courtyard so make sure everyone knows to move.
Supremus is an amusing boss; he continues to shoot out the molten flame just to keep the raid on their toes and adds volcanoes to make the phase an obstacle course. It is possible to run Supremus in paths that avoid spawning volcanoes in the middle of the fight area if players avoid
running straight through the middle of the yard when targeted. Normally players kite him from left wall to the right wall, and vice versa, near the initial pull area.
During Phase Two the tanks should be chasing Supremus for two reasons. The first reason is that the closer the tanks are to Supremus, the easier it is to get him under control when the transition from Phase Two back to Phase One occurs. The second reason is so the tanks can keep their rage up by continuing to hit Supremus.
Melee DPS players need to be aware of the fact that if they want to try to damage him during this phase, they have to be particularly careful. Melee DPS players have a short time frame to DPS him between targets. Have melee stay 20 yards away from him as he changes targets to give them a pad if Supremus gazes one of them.
Ranged DPS should be going all out during this phase since aggro is not an issue. Keep a good distance between your character and Supremus and hit him with everything you have. Please keep in mind that direct damage is better to use towards the end of the phase since DOTs may cause problems for the tanks while they try to get Supremus under control.
Healers need to keep an eye on everyone during this phase. Gazed players may get knocked back while other players may take damage from volcanoes and the molten fire. Quick healing spells and HOTs are optimal for this fight since everyone is moving.
Since Ranged DPS can damage him without worrying about aggro during Phase Two, Supremus’ 4.5 to 5 million hit points should steadily decrease. One item to note is that transitions from Phase Two back to Phase One can be difficult on the tanks if they were unable to stay in range of Supremus so a misdirect may be necessary. Most tanks do not have this problem but hunters should be ready to cast misdirect as necessary. Another tip to make this fight easier is to have most of the raid members with 10,000 hit points or above when buffed. This allows everyone to have a pad in case they are in an unlucky spot between a molten flame and volcano eruption. Once Supremus’ health goes below 20%, he seems to spawn more volcanoes during phase two so it is probable that a raid member may take damage from an eruption as he or she is moving.
Supremus is one of the easier fights in Black Temple. It does, however, require that your raid force pay attention to the fight and be mobile. Remind DPS that they can put out considerably more damage if they are alive instead being dead because they finished casting a spell instead of moving. Since Supremus has a 15 minute enrage timer, the focus should be on staying alive. As long as the raid is prepared for the fight, Supremus should not be a problem.
After killing Supremus, you can skip a few packs of trash mobs by heading back to the entrance and speaking to the Spirit of Udalo. You can select the option to port you to an area of friendly NPCs in the middle of Black Temple. Here you can repair, buy more regeants, purchase reputation rewards, and move further into Black Temple.
