High Warlord Naj’entus
So you have gained entry to the Black Temple and it is now time to move on to the first boss in Black Temple: High Warlord Naj’entus. To get into the room where he resides from the entrance, you have to make your way through the Karabor Sewers. Being that they are sewers, this area is wet, full of naga, turtles, and elementals. The handling of these mobs is explained in the section regarding the different trash mobs in Black Temple.
To enter High Warlord Naj’entus’ room, travel up the entrance tunnel to the first room and hug the right wall, continuing to go right up the tunnel to the room. You will see another tunnel on your left; follow that tunnel until you get to the next room. It is safe to move to the center of this room but do not move further to your right just yet. Look over to your right as you enter and you will see High Warlord Naj’entus standing on a stage.
Abilities
High Warlord Naj’entus is a naga boss with 3,700,000 hit points. His enrage timer is set at 8 minutes.
Naj’entus has some unique abilities that require the raid to be coordinated to handle. Here is a brief overview of the abilities.
Needle Spine: This ability affects the placement of the raid. It is an area of effect attack that does between 2,900 and 3,900 physical damage randomly to three raid members. Besides the targeted three members, this attack does an additional 2,500 damage to anyone within 6 yards of a target. Naj’entus uses this ability frequently throughout the fight. The only change to the timing of this ability is that it will not be used by Naj’entus until 15 seconds after his Tidal Shield is broken.
Tidal Shield: Naj’entus is not without tricks designed to protect himself. The Tidal Shield quite literally acts as a shield since he is immune to both melee and spells while it is active. Besides being a shield bubble, it also regenerates his health by 1 percent every 2 seconds. The shield can only be broken by the spines received from the Impaling Spine ability. If the shield is not broken, it will remain there for 45 seconds, regenerating his health. Tidal Shields are cast every 60 seconds into the fight. Breaking the Tidal Shield causes 8,500 damage to all members in the raid.
Impaling Spine: Naj’entus tosses a spine at a random target, immobilizing the player. The spine does an initial burst of damage ranging from 4,500 to 5,000 and then ticks for 2,500 damage every 3 seconds while on the player. An impaling spine is cast every 20 and 40 seconds from the initial pull. Once the initial Tidal Shield happens, the spine casts are reset to occur every 20 and 40 seconds from the initial Tidal Shield. To remove the spine, another raid member must right click the spine sticking out of the affected player. A spine enters the “clicker’s” inventory.
The Pull and Position
It is safe for the raid to stand in the center of the room before pulling. Use the center of the room as your tank spot. Pull Naj’entus to your tank with a hunter’s misdirect. Position the raid groups in a circle pattern around the tank. Each raid member is going to have to be at least 6 yards away from other raid members but group members need to stay in range of each other. Spread out to make full use of the area to limit the area of effect damage to those that cannot avoid splashing each other such as melee players.
Melee players also need to keep in mind that they need to stay as far away from the tank as possible. Naj’entus’ hit box is large so this should not be a problem for them. Depending on how many melee players are in the raid, you can either position melee players in packs that are 6 yards apart from the other melee packs or have them spread out individually to limit how many of them are affected by the area of effect spell at one time.
Battle
To successfully win a battle against High Warlord Naj’entus, there are some tips that you need to keep in mind for the fight. The first issue is health, which is extremely important because of the large amounts of damage the raid takes in a short period of time. Make sure that all of your raid members are near 10,000 or preferably have more hit points for this fight. The Tidal Shields do 8,500 frost damage to every member in the raid when popped so having a little more health for a pad is important for staying alive in this fight. Just remember that you are no help to the raid if you are dead.
To all the damage per second (DPS) players in this fight, you have 8 minutes to do maximum damage. The faster you damage Naj’entus, the more likely your healers will have the mana to keep you alive and the faster you find out what loot he has hidden on his naga body. Just remember to listen to your tank and keep an eye on your threat.
Healers are going to get a work out in this fight. Not only will the raid take a minimum of 8,500 frost damage every 60 seconds, there is also going to be about 2,500 damage being tossed at targets randomly, as well as the Impaling Spine initial damage and damage over time. You can do this fight with a minimum of 7 healers but having one or two more helps considerably. Assign three healers to your tank and have the rest of the healers keep their groups up and cross heal other groups. A combination of shadow priests for mana return and some health return to groups with healers greatly helps healers during this fight so spread the shadow priests out among the groups.
For your first attempts, you are going to want to use frost potions to make thefight easier. Consumables use is nothing new to a raider. Use whatever you need during this fight whether it is for extra hit points, mana regeneration, attack, or spell power. Frost potions will help you stay alive if you find your health is low right before a tidal shield is about to break. In some cases, it can save your life.
This fight is intense but relatively easy. Keep in mind that the spines need to be removed quickly and heals need to come just as quickly.
