Fathom-Lord Karathress
To reach Fathom-Lord Karathress, the raid can use one of two ways, depending on what other bosses are alive. If the raid has defeated Morogrim Tidewalker, follow the corridor behind where Morogrim Tidewalker is tanked to his room. Be careful when entering Fathom-Lord Karathress’ room from this corridor since he and his cronies are literally at the left of the entrance. If Leotheras the Blind is dead, follow the corridor from his room to Fathom-Lord Karathress. Fathom-Lord Karathress is in the back corner on the raid’s right if using this corridor to enter the room.
Abilities
Fathom-Lord Karathress is in a room with three of his guards. Fathom-Lord Karathress has 1,700,000 hit points. The enrage timer for this fight is set at 10 minutes.
Fathom-Lord Karathress
Fathom-Lord Karathress two main abilities within this fight.
Cataclysm Bolt: This spell is cast every 10 seconds and damages a single target for 50 percent of the target’s total health. It can be partially resisted.
Melee Strength: Once Fathom-Lord Karathress gets The Beast Within buff, his damage increases and each melee hit does about 6,000 damage points to the main tank.
Fathom-Guard Caribdis
A priest with 900,000 hit points who heals friendly targets and damages enemies.
Healing Wave: This single target heal can be used to heal any of the NPCs in the fight. She only heals mobs with less than 50 percent hit points. If this spell is successfully cast on a target, it heals for about 30 percent of the target’s total health. This spell can be interrupted.
Tidal Surge: This spell stuns players within 10 yards every 20 seconds. The players are frozen for 3 seconds but still take damage and retain aggro. It can be resisted using frost resistance gear.
Water Bolt Volley: This is an AoE spell with a 45 yard range that deals 3,000 damage to all players within range.
Whirlwind: An actual whirlwind moves around the area, tossing players up into the air. It does not do any damage but does interrupt casting.
Fathom-Guard Skarkkis
This hunter has 900,000 hit points. He does moderate damage so both the pet and the hunter can be double-tanked. Two healers should be enough to heal the tank tanking both of them.
Beast Within: Both the hunter and pet go into an enraged state and increase damage dealt by 30 and 50 percent for 18 seconds.
Leeching Throw: Similar to a player hunter’s Viper Sting that burns burns both 525 hit points and mana every 2 seconds for 12 seconds.
Multi-Shot: This ability does 3,000 damage points to three players at most.
Summon Pet: An elemental or beast pet that cannot be crowd controlled.
Fathom-Guard Tidalvess
This shaman has 850,000 hit points and all of the damage spells a typical shaman has (Windfury, Frost Shock, Totems, etc).
Spitfire Totem: A totem that does 3,500 damage points to multiple targets.
The Pull and Position
Clear all the trash around the room, making sure not to aggro Fathom-Lord Karathress. For the pull, the tanks run to the four mobs and pull their mobs. Hunters should use their Misdirect ability on mobs for tanks that have a problem pulling their mobs. The raid should start off near the corner on the raid platform opposite of Fathom-Lord Karathress.
Fathom-Lord Karathress is tanked where he stands. The other three mobs are each pulled to their own corners. The kill order is usually Hunter, Shaman, Priest, and Fathom-Lord Karathress but it can also be done Shaman, Hunter, Priest, and Fathom-Lord Karathress.
Battle
The raid must handle the bosses simultaneously. Each of the bosses needs to be tanked so healers need to be assigned to all the tanks. As each boss dies, one of the healers assists with main tanking healing while the other healers move on with the rest of the raid.
Fathom-Guard Skarkkis
The tank for this boss must tank both the hunter and his pet. Healers need to focus on both keeping this tank’s health up as well as the raid’s health. Leeching Throw and Multi-Shot abilities affect the raid as well as the tank. A Shadow Bolt from Fathom-Lord Karathress combined with the damage from a Leeching Throw can kill a raid member.
The tank needs to make sure they keep aggro on the hunter pet or it will charge off and start damaging healers and damage dealers in the raid. Once this mob is dead, one healer moves to heal Fathom-Lord Karathress’ tank and the tank’s healer. The other healer moves with the rest of the raid, healing both raid members and the other tanks.
Fathom-Guard Tidalvess
The shaman’s Spitfire totem does a lot of damage to the raid. It needs to be burned down by raid every time this totem appears. The other totems can be ignored. The shaman also does significant damage to the tank tanking him. Have three healers focusing on healing this tank as well as each other. If possible keep a shaman healer here, keeping a grounding totem up so that the tank does not get Frost Shocked.
Healers should stand out of the totem’s range to avoid taking damage. When this boss is killed second, two healers join the main tank healers and the other joins the raid and moves to Caribdis.
Fathom-Guard Caribdis
Throughout the duration of the fight, two healers, one tank, and a rogue should be on Caribdis at all times. A warlock runs within range to keep Curse of Tongues on Caribdis.
The rogue is there to interrupt Caribdis’ heals.
When the raid arrives at Caribdis, the raid will take considerable damage from her Water Bolt Volley ability. Kill Caribdis so that the raid can quickly move onto Karathress.
Remember that the main tank healers now have to heal through the Beast Within buff and Spitfire Totem so that extra second can be tragic for the raid.
Fathom-Lord Karathress
At first, one healer should be able to keep the tank up without a problem. Once Fathom-Lord Karathress receives the abilities of the other mobs, his damage steadily increases and the tank needs more healers. Assign healers to move to the tank as the other mobs die. An extremely good paladin is perfect to start off as the single healer for this fight. Have some healers assigned primarily to the main tank as they arrive and have others that focus on keeping the main tank healers alive along with the main tank. The healers will take damage from Fathom-Lord Karathress’ Cataclysm Bolts and eventually from Spitfire Totems.
Once the raid reaches Fathom-Lord Karathress, the raid again will take more damage. Caribdis healers again split between raid and main tank healing. Based on the timer, the raid can either stop damaging Fathom-Lord Karathress to kill Spitfire Totems or simply ignore them and heal though it. If the enrage timer is getting close, ignore the totems and just burn Karathress down with everything the raid has.
This fight takes focus. Movement needs to happen quickly. Damage needs to happen quickly. Targets need to be switched quickly. The raid needs to go over the strategy before the fight begins since everything in this fight happens fast.
