Introduction
Located in the Coilfang Reservoir, Serpentshrine Cavern is Lady Vashj’s residence. This zone only has six major bosses. The raid group defeats the first five bosses to gain access to Lady Vashj. Most bosses can be pulled normally in this zone but one requires a fishing pole to begin the encounter.
Before continuing, one set of trash mobs can be killed by doing one little step: boiling the water. Coilfang Frenzies are fish that attack anyone that decides to go for a dip in the water. After killing all the 6 platform packs that are surrounding The Lurker Below, the water begins to boil, thus killing all the fish in the water.
Trash Mobs
Excluding the coilfang frenzies, all of the trash mobs are actually associated to the different bosses in the zone. The trash mobs are together in packs and are on a 2 hour respawn timer. Trash mobs leading to bosses generally do not respawn if that boss is defeated.
?Coilfang Beast-Tamer – These mobs have pets that they can enrage. They need to be tanked.
●Serpentshrine Sporebat – This pet can be crowd controlled but it will break crowd controlled when the Beast-Tamer enrages it.
?Coilfang Fathom-Witch – These mobs mind control players and do an AoE knock back.
?Coilfang Hate-Screamer – These mobs need to be tanked and silence players.
?Coilfang Priestess – These mobs can be crowd controlled or mind controlled while other mobs are being fought.
?Coilfang Serpentguard – They have spell reflect shields and an aura that reduces the target’s armor by 25 percent.
Coilfang Shatterer – These mobs must be tanked.
?Greyheart Nether-Mage – These mobs can be sheeped. They have an AoE spell with a large range and buffs that increase their damage output.
?Greyheart Skulker – These mobs do their best to interrupt casters that are near them.
?Greyheart Shield-Bearer – These mobs can be crowd controlled.
?Greyheart Technicians – Tank these only to keep them off healers. Otherwise crowd control them. They are relatively week and die quickly
?Greyheart Tidecaller – This mob can be crowd controlled. He summons totems that create water elementals. He also has a magic buff on him that places a debuff on players that is a DoT, which does a massive amount of damage. It can be dispelled off of infected players. The buff itself can be stolen.
?Serpentshrine Lurker – Similar to the Colossus in appearance. This mob spawns mushrooms that players must avoid.
?Tidewalker Depth-Seer – This mob does weak damage and must be tanked.
?Tidewalker Harpooner – These murlocs do weak damage and must be tanked.
?Tidewalker Lurker – This mob must be tanked.
?Tidewalker Shaman – This mob should be tanked and interrupted.
?Tidewalker Warrior – These murlocs drop their aggro and can be crowd controlled.
?Underbog Colossus – Only mob that is solo throughout the instance and can easily wipe a raid. The abilities this mob can have varies:
●Acid Geyser – A DoT that does 2,000 nature damage points to a target for 10 seconds in a frontal cone. The colossus randomly chooses a target so the raid is often in the frontal cone. The target should run to the tank when this happens to turn the colossus.
●Frenzy – The mob hits faster. A hunter’s Tranquilizing Shot stops this ability.
●Parasite – Any AoE spells or abilities can kill these, including a warrior’s Thunderclap. If a parasite kills a target, it jumps to another target and spawns more parasites.
●Rampant Infection – This spell can jump from one player to another player to another player. It does 3,000 damage points to the first target and then increases damage done with every jump.
●Refreshing Mist – When a colossus dies, the mob can also spawn blue mushrooms that regenerate the mana and health of players.
●Spawn Colossus Lurkers – When a colossus dies, it can spawn two lurkers to be tanked.
●Spore Quake – Knocks the target down and places a nature DoT that does 2,000 damage points to a target for 12 seconds to players within 30 yards.
●Toxic Pool – A pool can develop on the ground around where the mob dies and does 2,000 nature damage every second to players as long as they stand there.
?Vashj’ir Honor Guard – These mobs must be tanked and do cleave players.
Serpentshrine Cavern no longer requires attunement to enter so many guilds are experiencing this zone. Trash can be harsh due to the respawn timer so a good practice is to make sure that there is some form of wipe recovery available for every boss attempt.
