Introduction
Gruul’s Lair is located in Blade’s Edge Mountains. Since both the king of the Blade’s Edge ogres and Gruul are in the instance, the instance is a cave located in an area that is patrolled by ogres. Since Gruul is a dragonkiller, a few dragon heads are impaled around the entrance of the instance.
Gruul’s Lair is an optional instance at this time. Many guilds do attempt to farm this zone before moving to the Tier Five raiding zones because Tier Four pieces and equivalent drop from bosses within Gruul’s lair.
Trash Mobs
The raid will be happy to know that there are no little gruuls wandering around the zone but there are ogre trash mobs. The two most common are listed below:
Gronn-Priest
As you can probably guess, the priests are those pesky healers so their spells are the most damaging to raids. Each priest has less than 300,000 hit points.
Heal – This healing spell is the priest’s largest healing spell and is interruptible. This spell heals the target for about 50 percent of the target’s health.
Immunities – Sorry, the priests cannot be silenced.
Psychic Scream – This is an AoE fear that is similar to a player priest’s psychic scream.
Renew – This is a heal-over-time spell that does about 10, 000 healing points to targets per second. Dispel, purge, and steal this spell from the target.
Lair Brute – The brutes have a little less than 300,000 hit points. Lair Brutes like backup! They call for help when they are near death so the raid needs to adjust pulls so that they are far enough away from other mobs to avoid other mobs joining the fight before the raid is ready for them.
Charge – Brutes charge players at random and dump their current aggro targets. Each charge does 700 damage points. Players that are standing too far away from brutes are charged.
Cleave – Brutes cleave for anywhere between 5,000 to 7,000 damage points, depending on the type of armor the player is wearing. The cleave arc is about 180 degrees in front of the brutes.
Immunities – Brutes are immune to snare and stun effects.
Mortal Strike – This ability does 7,000 damage points to the current target.
Gruul’s Lair is a small zone without many trash mobs between the bosses. It has only two boss encounters and is a good zone for guilds to start with to begin to work on 25 player raiding zones.
