Relics and Librams
Librams are the paladin equivalent of a wand. They don't cause any damage but instead give you a small buff to one of your spells or abilities. The effects from librams are smal and if you only use on you'll barely notice it. But you can switch them out during combat before using a spell with a macro like this.
/equip 'Libram of X';
/cast 'Flash of Light';
So the more librams you have the more well rounded your character will be. Librams also give their effects as soon as the spell is cast. So if you were to use the Librams of Saints Departed to increase the damage from
your Consecrate you could immediately switch to another Libram and the damage boost will stay. You can also do this with the Libram of Souls Redeemed.
Holy Librams
Libram of Souls Redeemed
http://www.thottbot.com/i28592
This Libram is very useful for when you have to heal characters that really need Blessing of light, like tanks. Make sure to switch it in when you cast BoL and switch in another Libram later
Libram of the Lightbringer
http://www.thottbot.com/i28296
This is the best Libram to use with Holy Light. Make sure you switch it in and out with a macro.
Libram of Justice
http://www.thottbot.com/i28356
This is only useful in PVP, and only when you heal.
Blessed Book of Nagrand
http://www.thottbot.com/i25644
This is one of the best Librams you can have for casting Flash of Light. It is probably one of the best healing Librams period.
Libram of Wracking
http://www.thottbot.com/i28065
This is a reward from a simple quest and only useful when you are going to be doing a lot of grinding against demons or undead.
Protection
Libram of Repentance
http://www.thottbot.com/i29388
This is a great Libram to use while tanking. It helps prevent damage and increases your threat.
Libram of Eternal Rest
http://www.thottbot.com/i27917
This is primarily for when you tank and need consecrate for extra threat, but it should also be used for the other times you need it.
Retribution
Libram of Righteous Power
http://www.thottbot.com/i31033
This is a nice buff for crusader strike, and comes from a simple quest. Definetly get it if you are a ret paladin.
Libram of Avengement
http://www.thottbot.com/i27484
This is probably the best Libram a Ret Paladin can get. Switch it in whenever you use Judgment.
Libram of Zeal
http://www.thottbot.com/i27949
This is not a very good Libram but can be useful if you do lots and lots of holy damage.
Libram of Saints Departed
http://www.thottbot.com/i24386
This is not a terribly useful Libram, but its one of the first ones you can get at level sixty.
Healing Armor
The majority of straight healing items that a paladins can use are either rings, trinkets or capes. Until level seventy you will find very few plate items that have +healing. But this is offset by the number of items that have +damage and healing together.

Gems
After level sixty many high level items contain gem sockets that you can use to augment your gear further and customize your playing style. Gems come in three different types. Pure colored gems like red, yellow and blue focus exclusively on one stat like strength, crit or healing. Most of the time you will want to focus on these types of gems when socketing your armor. This lets you maximize a certain stat that you are low on like +healing or attack power. Mixed color gems are a combination of two primary gems. So a purple gem might have a red gems +spell damage and a blue gems +stamina. In order to not be overpowered mixed gems always have have the power of a pure colored gem, but its strength is spread out over two slots. For the most part you will only want to use a mixed color gem if you are trying to complete a socket bonus, or want to raise two attributes evenly. The final catigory of gems are meta gems. These can only be equipped in head armor and have a special effect besides just boosting your stats. They also require a certain condition be met before being activated like having a certain number of colored gems, or more of one color than another.
Socket Bonuses.
The sockets on a pece of gear will corespond to one of the three primary colors. If you match the color of the gem with the socket most armor will give you a socket bonus of some extra stength or spell damage or stamina. You don't need to match the sockets with the color of your gems, but if you do you won't gain the bonus. For the most part though socket bonuses are not very worthwhile. In order to get a socket bonus you may need to use gems that don't fit very
well with your playstyle, where as if you ignore the bonus and put in the gems you want you will usually gain a larger bonus to the stat you most want.
Holy Gems
Holy specced paladins will be focused on gems that increase their healing power. +healing is the best, but also look for gems that offer mana/5 and intellect.
For red sockets look for Teardrop class gems. This is the strongest healing gem you can get so if you don't care about set bonuses you should consider getting nothing but these.
For yellow sockets you will want to consider a mixed gem like the Luminous class. If you want a very crit heavy build though you should consider a Gleaming class gem or a Brilliant class gem if you are very low on intellect or a Mystic to increase your resilience.
For blue sockets look for Royal class gems for +healing and mana/5. Steady is a good option when PVPing.
Protection Gems
Protection specced paladins are focused on pure defensive stats. If you are serious about being a tank you will want to get pure +stamina gems.
For red sockets you may want to consider either Subtle class gems for dodge, or Flashing gems for parry. If you are going to be taking on multiple mobs you should consider Subtle over Flashing.
For yellow sockets you should consider Thick class gems for extra defense. If you have reached the defense cap though look for something else like a Ridged gem for hit rating or Enduring gem for defense/stamina.
Blue sockets should always be filled with Solid gems. In fact, you should probably fill all of your slots with Solid gems regardless of set bonuses if you are going to tank.
Retribution Gems
Retribution will want to focus on damage dealing gems like . If you are very low on HP though you might want to use some mixed gems to raise that while raising your attack as well.
Red- Try to fill up your red sockets with either Bold or Bright gems. Bold is slightly better because it is buffed from Divine Strength.
Yellow- I always use Smooth gems to increase my critical strike rating. If it is already high enough use a Mystic gem to increase your resilience.
Blue- Blue sockets should always be filled with +Stamina gems like Solid. Or if you want to get more resilience look for Steady gems.
