3.6.1. What is Castle War?
Castle war is a mini-game feature for members in Runescape. So what is castle
war? It’s basically what it sounds like. It is a war between 2 teams: Zamorak and
Saradomin.
Any Runescape member can have access to castle war. Castle war is located
southwest of Ardougne and east of Yanille. The only entrance into castle war is going
pass the northern bridges of the area. No other entrance is possible, unless you rub an
emerald enchanted ring.
Once you’re inside the main building, you can access your back account through
the bank chest in the southeast corner of the room. Talk to Lanthus if you want to hear
about the rules of the game. He is located in the center of the building. You can also
purchase a castle war manual book from him for 5gps or exchange any castle war tickets
you have for the prizes. Check the score board hung up between Zamorak’s and Guthix’s
portal to see the number of times each team has won throughout the day.
3.6.2. Choosing Sides
Now it is time to choose the team side you want to be on. Head inside the red
portal, the most southern portal, to be on Zamorak’s team; head through the blue portal,
the most northern portal, to be on Saradomin’s side. If you can’t decide which side to be
on or don’t really care, then head through the middle green portal, Guthix’s portal, and
you’ll randomly be placed on a team. Once you pass through a portal you’ll be teleported
to your team’s base.
Note that no capes or hat is allowed on you when entering portals. Otherwise, it is
up to you to decide which equipment you want to wear. Cloaks of your team’s color will be
given to you when you choose sides. They can’t be removed nor kept when the battle is
over. Cloaks are worn to show which side a player’s on.
3.6.3. Rules
Each battle lasts 20 minutes. An additional 5 minutes is added after each battle to
prepare for the next. You can get ready, choose sides, exchange your castle war tickets
for gift, or stay in your team’s base during this time period. Once the 5 minutes has pass,
you’ll be teleported to your team’s starting room. Players from the other side can’t enter
your team’s starting room.
The object of the game is to capture the other team’s flag and bring it back to your
own team’s standard stand, kind of like a game of Capture the Flag. Whenever you or
another player on your side does this your team will earn 1 point. However, while your
team is trying to capture the enemy’s flag, the enemy will also be trying to do the same to
yours. The team with the most points by the end of the battle is the winning team. Every
player that took part in the war will be teleported back to the main building, and every
player that’s on the winning team will get 2 castle war tickets, exchangeable for prizes
from Lanthus.
3.6.4. Engaging in Combat
Once you’re in your team’s starting room, gather some bandages (heals ur hp
when used) and pass through the energy barrier. Now you can consider yourself engaged
in combat. As your whole team begins to spread themselves out among the castle, you
can choose to either defend your team’s flag against oncoming enemies or try to infiltrate
through the enemy’s castle to capture their flag. Each teams’ flag is located on the top
most floor of their castle. Either option you choose, to defend or infiltrate, you may want to
consider gathering up some extra war items. The items of the game can be taken from the
tables in the first floor of each teams’ castle (look below at the items section for details on
the items of the game is). Bandages are only available for taking in your own team’s
starting room.
Now that the engagement has begun, you will and almost absolutely be attack by a
player on the opposite side. Do not fret, just retaliate. This is an anything goes kind of
game, so you can choose to either flee or fight. If you die, you won’t lose your
equipments. All that will happen is that you’ll be teleported back to your team’s starting
room and you can start anew from there. The items specifically made for the war (e.g.
bandage, barricade, etc.) will be lost though. However, any outside items (fish, weapons,
money, etc.) will still be with you. Castle war is typically a fun game where you can go to
for relaxation.
