3.1.7. Smithing
Smithing is the process of refining ores into bars and then forging the bars into
weapons or armors. Not a very hard skill to train, just takes some time. Smithing and
mining goes together like two peas in a pod. So in order to smith, you'll have to mine ores.
The materials you need to smith are the ores and a hammer.
To refine ores into bars, go to a furnace. Furnaces are widely spread around the
kingdoms or Runescape. In order to make the bars, you need the ores. Here is a list of
which type or bars can be made with which type of ore.
Bars

Note: There is a 50% rate of failing to refine iron ores into iron bars.
The next step is to forge the ores. You will need a hammer to do this. Bring the
hammer along with the type of bar that you want your material to be made out of to an
anvil. Anvils are found across many different areas. Once you are in screen-shot view with an anvil, click to use the bar it. A list of weapons, armors, and other tools will appear on
your screen. Click on the item that you wish to make. Note that the items that you can
make are in white text. Next to each item are texts that tell you how many bars that item
will use up in order to be forged. Throwing knives, Arrow heads, and Dart tips can only be
forged if you are a member.
Bronze

Iron

Steel

Mithril

Adamantite

Runite

Note: The number in the parenthesis besides each equipment represents how many bars
are needed to forge the item. You can not smith black equipments.
Training
Start off by smithing bronze equipments until around level 18. Then make iron
equipments until level 30. During the process of leveling your smithing level from 15 to 30
can take some time because smelting iron ores only has a 50% rate of succession and
smithing bronze equipments doesn’t really give that much exp, plus you have to get 2
types of ore. From level 30 and on smith steel equipments. Steel is considered the most
efficient way to level up smithing.
Tips
- Smithing requires the use of mining, so you’ll be able to get both mining and smithing
exp.
- If you are a member and your crafting and magic level is high, then make a few
enchanted ruby rings. Ruby rings will give you 100% of being able to smelt iron ores. It will
be used up after 100 uses. If you can’t make a ring of forging, then buy one from other
players. Being able to smelt iron ores with a 100% succession will really help you because
iron ore is considered the most quickest and cheapest to get.
- However, if you are not a member and don’t have the benefit of getting a 100% chance
of being able to smelt iron ores then you should stick with making steel bars to level up
your smithing. Just mine 1 full inventory of iron ores and 2 full inventories of coals and
you’ll be able to make 1 full inventory of steel bars. You can also buy the coals and iron
ores from other players if you want.
- When forging steel equipments, sell them to the General Store. The average price of
selling each steel equipments made out of 1 steel bar is around 100gps so you’ll be able
to make some good money by smithing steel equipments. Also, sell the equipments you
forge when working with bronze, iron, or any higher quality bars if you wish to make extra
cash.
3.1.8. Woodcutting
Many people are beginning to level up their woodcutting level since RS Beta came
out. The cause of this is because non-members can now chop down oak, willow, and yew
trees instead of just normal trees, and that the process of cutting down trees is kind of like
fishing. You just have to click one time on a tree and your character will continue on
chopping at the tree until it has fallen down (normal trees will only give 1 set of logs until it
will fall down). You need a hatchet (axe) to chop down trees. The better the hatchet you
wield, the higher the rate of chopping down trees you’ll get.
Hatchets

Trees

Training
Basically, the higher your attack level is the higher the quality of hatchets you’ll be
able to wield. Anyways, chop down normal trees until level 20. Then, chop down some
oaks until level 35. Now you can start chopping down willows. At level 60, you can get
some yews and sell them for a good price of around 200gps.
Tips
- Wield the best type of hatchet possible. Better hatchets will give you a faster rate of
chopping down trees.

Runescape Powerleveling Guide
- Make sure that you are supervising your character when he/she is woodcutting because
sometimes your axe head will break off and land some few paces away. If you don’t pick
up your axe head in time, then other players will be able to get it. I’ve lost a few rune axe
heads because of my carelessness.
- Willows are considered the best solution to power woodcut after level 30 and up
because they give a decent amount of exp and not very long to obtain.
- If you want to make money chopping down willows in a free server world, then woodcut
at the willow trees in Draynor Village. There is a bank nearby so you can deposit the
willows whenever you want. Willows sell for around 20-30gps. The reason why willows are
of value is because they are needed in fletching.
- If you just want to level up your woodcutting exp but don’t want to profit any money off of
it, then woodcut at a location where no one goes to. Willow trees are usually located at the
shore of a land. In f2p servers, there is a spot west of Port Sarim where several willow
trees are. After you have a full inventory of logs then drop them on the ground or light
them up with a tinderbox to get both woodcutting and firemaking exp.
