Rune Essences
Rune essences are one of the required items that you need to runecraft. They are
obtainable by mining rune essence rocks. You can make certain kinds of runes from the
rune essence depending on which ruin you go to.
Talismans
Talismans are also needed to runecraft. Talismans show you the location of the
ruins that you can make certain runes out of. They can be acquired throughout the world
from monsters to acquirements. You must have a ruin’s talisman in your inventory before
you can teleport to its altar.
Ruins
Ruins are the places that you can turn your rune essence into runes. There are
many ruins that only allow you to make one certain kind of rune. For example, the Air ruin
can only be use to craft air runes. It can't be made to craft other runes such as mind or
fire.
How to runecraft:
Go to the Wizard's Tower and talk to Sedridor in the Basement. Ask him to teleport
you to the Rune Essence Mining Field. He'll chant out some magical words and you'll
instantly be transported to the mining area. There are several rune essence rocks that you
can mine here. Mine these rocks to obtain the rune essence. Once you have a good
amount of rune essence, find a teleportation portal. Step on it and it will transport you
back to the Wizards’ Tower's basement. Depending on what kind of rune you want to
make from the rune essence, you'll need to acquire the right kind of talisman (e.g. Air
talisman, Mind Talisman, etc.). These talismans will show you the location of each rune
ruins. Just click on the locate option on the talisman and it will point to the direction where
the ruin is. At each ruin is an altar in which you can craft your rune essence into runes.
Making certain types of runes require a certain runecraft level.
There are several runecrafting mining fields where you can get rune essences. Here
below are some npcs who will teleport you to the fields.
- Sedridor in Wizard's Tower
- Aubury in rune shop in Varrock
- Wizard Cromperty in East Ardougne (members)
- Wizard Distentor in Magic Guild (members)
- Brimstail the Gnome in the Gnome Tree Village underground cave (members)

Location of Ruins

As your Runecrafting level increases, you'll be able to craft multiple runes per
essence. For example, if you are at level 28, you can get three mind runes for every rune
essence.
Multiple Runes:
Air: Mind: Water: Earth: Fire: Body:
1x – 1 1x – 2 1x – 5 1x – 9 1x – 14 1x – 20
2x – 11 2x – 14 2x – 19 2x – 26 2x – 35 2x – 46
3x – 22 3x – 28 3x – 38 3x – 52 3x – 70 3x – 92
4x – 33 4x – 42 4x – 57 4x – 78
5x – 44 5x – 56 5x – 76
6x – 55 6x – 70 6x – 95
7x – 66 7x – 84
8x – 77 8x – 98
9x – 88
Cosmic: Chaos: Nature:
1x – 27 1x – 35 1x – 44
2x – 59 2x – 74 2x – 91
Training
Runecrafting is considered very long to train. Just mine or buy loads of rune
essences and then craft them at an altar. Runecraft air runes until level 5. Then runecraft
water runes until level 14. From level 14, go to Al Kharid and craft fire runes. The type of
runes players want to craft just depends on if that player needs it.
Tips
- Craft at the altar in which you can get multiple runes from just 1 rune essence.
- Buy all the different types of talismans. They are cheap and you’ll never know when you
want to runecraft certain runes.
- Buy rune essence if you don’t want to waste your time mining them. They are worth
around 10-20gps each.
3.1.12. *Fletching
Fletching is a basic member skill that allows you to make bows and arrows. The
idea of letting players make bows or particularly arrows out of wood is a great asset to
rangers. Fletching is also a good skill for making quick cash.
Fletching Bows
Steps on fletching and stringing bows:
1) - Obtain a Knife
2) - Cut some logs.
3) - Use Knife on Logs.
4) - Choose the bow.
5) - Get Flax (can be obtained in the Flax field southeast of Seers Village or at Gnome
Stronghold).
6) - Use the Flax on a Spinning Wheel to get Bowstring.
7) - Attach Bowstring to Unstrung Bow.
Note: You must be level 10 to string Flax.

Fletching Arrows
Steps on how to make arrows:
1) - Make/Get some Arrow Heads (15 in a bundle).
2) - Get 15 Feathers.
3) - Cut some Logs.
4) - Use a Knife on the Logs and make Arrow Shafts (15 in a bundle).
5) - Use Feathers with Arrow Shafts to get 15 Headless Arrows.
6) - Then use the Arrow Heads on the Headless Arrows.
Note: Arrow Shafts can only be obtained through Normal Logs. You get 5 exp for making
15 Arrow Shafts. Attaching Feathers to a bundle of Arrow Shaft will earn you 15xp (1
feather + 1 Arrow Shaft = 1xp).
Attaching Arrow Heads to Headless Arrows

Note: The columns under Total Exp includes the total experience receive for making 15
arrowshafts, attaching 15 Feathers to the shafts, and then putting 15 Arrow Heads on the
15 Headless Arrows.
Making Special Bolts
Special Bolts are bolts that you can make from attaching Bolt Tips to regular bolts.
Regular bolts can be obtained in ranging stores, monsters, or spawning points. There are
three special bolts: Opal Tipped Bolts, Pearl Tipped Bolts, and Barbed Tipped Bolts.
Steps on how to make Opal Bolts:
1) - Mine some Opal Gems in Shilo Village (must complete Shilo Village Quest to mine
these from the rocks).
2) - Cut the Opal Gem with a Chisel. You'll get 2 Opal Boltips for each gem and 4 fletching
exp for every 2 Opal Bolttips.
3) - Use the 2 Opal Bolttips on 2 Normal Bolts.
Steps on how to make Pearl Bolts:
1) - Fish some Oysters and search them to see if they have a Pearl in it.
2) - Use a Chisel on the Pearl to get 2 Pearl Tips.
3) - Use the 2 Pearl Bolttips on 2 Normal Bolts.
Steps on how to make Barbed Bolts:
1) - Get 140 Archery Tickets in the Ranging Guild by shooting at the targets.
2) - Exchange your tickets for 30 Barb Bolttips by speaking to the Ticket Merchant.
3) - Use the 30 Barb Bolttips on 30 Normal Bolts.
Making Bolts

Making Darts
Darts are like arrows, except you won’t need a bow to shoot them. You can just
simply attack an npc/player by throwing it at them. You can smith Dart Tips after you
complete the Tourist Trap Quest.
Steps on how to make Darts:
1) - Smith a Dart Tip. Any bar, except gold and silver, is possible.
2) - Attach a Feather to the Dart Tip.
Making Darts

Training
Basically, in order to fletch the only items you’ll need is logs and a knife, and
maybe a hatchet if you intend to cut your own logs. Use the knife on the logs and choose
the equipment you want to fletch. Start off getting some normal logs and fletching them
into arrow shafts. Keep the arrow shafts because you might need them when you range.
Do this until level 10. Then fletch longbows from normal logs until level 20. Now if you can,
cut down oak trees and make oak short bow. Move on to oak long bows at level 25. Start
making willow long bows until level 40. From here on, only make longbows.
Tips
- The best place to fletch is around an area with the trees that you need to chop down
with in order to be able to fletch. Make sure that the location you pick is nearby a bank or
General Store so that you won’t have to waste your time dropping the unstrung bows that
you made. If you are making arrow shafts, then save them because they only use up 1
inventory space.
- The only item you need when fletching is a knife and an axe. Don’t bring anything else to
save space and energy.
- When you have a full inventory of logs, fletch them while at the same time walking to a
bank or General Store. Multi-tasking is a great way to not waste time.
- Do not fletch unstrung bows and then save them in your bank to sell to players. No one
buys them.
- Don’t string bows just for the exp because making bow strings out of flax used on a
spinning wheel can take quite a long time. Another option you can use is to buy flax or
bow strings from other players and then string them but flax can sometimes be quite
expensive.
- You can gain both fletching and woodcutting exp if you fletch from scratch.
- Fletch long bows instead of short bows if you have the option to.
- A good method you can use to level up your fletching once your fletching level is 25+ is
to buy a lot of willow logs from free to play players for 20-25gps each, fletch the willows
into long bows, and then sell them at most General Stores for 16gps each. The price that
you pay to gain the exp from fletching one willow long bow will vary depending on the
price you have paid for the logs. You can even make a profit if you buy the willow logs for
cheaper than 16gps each.
