Investing is highly one of the most clever and beneficial type of idea you can use to
bring up your cash flow, but you must know how to invest wisely. As you may know, not all types of item or equipment is good for investment. Over the Runescape years, almost all new featured items has decayed in value. The price of new equipments and weapons are destined to decrease little by little over time, except for maybe an exceptional few that may either remain steady or in some rare cases, grow in rarity. It is also not very wise to invest in skill items (i.e. smithing bars, farming seeds, herbs, etc.) as it is not guaranteed to grow or fall in value.
So what is the best source to invest in? Simple: holiday-dropped items, otherwise
known as discontinued items (meaning they are only obtainable through trading with other players; not acquirable through any other method). They may be expensive, but they are well worth it if you have the money. Investing in discontinued items is not the same as gambling, because it is positively guaranteed that the value of the item will rise, as it has taken into effect over the last years. If you are ready to quit or retire from the game for awhile and have leftover money to spend, then I highly suggest you invest in some type of discontinued item, be it a santa hat, halloween masks, or even party hats. Here is a list of all the discontinued holiday-dropped items. If the item is not in this list, then it wouldn’t be too wise for you to spend your money for that item as an investment.

Note: The Christmas Cracker, which is considered the most rarest and most expensive item in the game, will give the owner of the cracker and his/her chooser each either a colored party hat (guaranteed for one of them), and another random item of the game (guaranteed to the person not receiving the party hat).
