Levels 1 through 4

The early years in Norrath can fly by if you know where to hunt. So, what I have done is split each section of the guide up into geographical regions. The first five levels of life aren’t too hard, so here we go:

                        Qeynos Hills at dawn.

Western Antonica Area:

Firstly, if you play as an Eurdite, immediately hop onto the boat and make your way to Qeynos. Tox forest is a nightmare for leveling at this low of a level. It is dark, foggy, and basically not very fun to find a corpse in. Get on the boat headed to Qeynos, and then go through South Qeynos to North Qeynos and get a bind from a caster at the gate.

From levels one to three, North Qeynos will be your home. At level one,simply kill snakes or rats until you "ding" to two. From two to three fight Gnoll Pups (good for Qeynos faction if you are an Eurdite), with an occasional beetle thrown in. Once you hit level four, kill nothing but beetles (with an occasional Gnoll Pup for faction and cash), until you hit five. Once of the nice things about the beetles are their eyes. A Fire Beetle Eye can be used as a minor light source for the blind Humans and Eurdites, or they can sell for as much as 2sp 2cp at merchants (depending on your faction, charisma, etc.).

Now, at four, you could zone into Qeynos Hills (you will need to at five), but it is slightly more dangerous as there are higher level monsters wandering the area.

As for the Barbarians in the frozen northern area of Everfrost, your newbie zone is probably one of the best in the game. Not only are there plenty of monsters (even right near the Halas tunnel), most of them drop coin and other good loot. From levels one to four fight Goblin Welps and Gnoll Pups. By the time you hit four, you should have enough money for some patchwork armor, and maybe a slightly better weapon.

Eastern Antonica Area

The eastern part of the continent of Antonica is a very varied place. First off, the Halfling City of Rivervale is connected to Misty Thicket, also one of the best newbie areas in the game. In fact, it is so good; many Human players make the extremely dangerous trip here just to level.

If you do play a human, and you do want to make the trip to Misty Thicket, you have a dangerous trip ahead of you. Firstly, you need to run through the Eastern and Western Commonlands, before coming to the "hell zone" of Kithicor Forest. From about 8am (game time) to 6pm, Kith Forest is save for travelers. But, as soon as the sun sets, the forest turns into a haven of death. Level 30+ Undead spawn, slaughtering all in their way. Worse yet, high level players tend to pull the monsters to the zone lines to safely fight them. If you need to run through Kithicor, do it in daylight and be sure to /shout "Undead gone?" upon entering the zone.

As for the mobs in Misty Thicket, they are basically the same as the ones in the Qeynos area, but with Goblin Workers taking the place of Gnoll Pups. So, take snakes at level one, then Goblin Workers, Beetles, Rats, and Spiderlings all the way to four.

Dark Elves also start out in this area, but their newbie zone is not so good. You can level off the snakes, rats, etc until three or four, but after that you will want to jump ship to a different zone as soon as possible (unless you are a Necromancer, which I will explain later).

In the Southern part of Antonica, Trolls and Ogres actually start out life as next-door neighbors (so to speak). Trolls start in Innothule Swamp and Ogres start in the Feerott (a rotting rainforest).

While the Feerott is a good zone to start in, many Ogres make the short walk to Innothule swamp. Both have similar early level mobs, but Innothule is filled with patches of water, which can help to build up your swimming skill. Hunt the same snakes, rats, etc up until four.

Faydwer

Dwarves start out in their city, Kaladim, which is carved into the Butcherblock Mountains. Directly outside of the gates, you can find a large hill where many low level mobs spawn. Snakes are good at one, but then you’ll want to move on to Goblin Workers, and Decaying Dwarf Skeletons. The skeletons sometimes drop bone chips. If you collect four (or more), you can turn them into Gunlok Jure in the Paladin’s Guild for good exp and maybe some armor or a weapon.

High Elves, some Half Elves, and Wood Elves all start in the massive zone of Greater Faydark. Both the newbie areas in front of Felwithe (High Elf city) and Kelethin (Wood Elf city) have the same spawns. So, fight rats, bats, and wasp drones up to four.

If you want to rush your way to four, you can do the mail quest between the two cities. Inside Felwithe, you can find Tacar Tissleplay who asks you to deliver mail to Jakum Webdancer in the Bard’s Guild in Kelethin. This quest can take you from one to four very quickly and net a ton of cash. The problem is, by doing the quest, your skills will not raise. So, you’ll want to try to gain the last bar of exp per level via combat to raise your skills.

The tiny Gnomes start out in Ak’Anon, which is connected to the Steamfont Mountains. If you leave the city, and turn left at the fork in the road, you will come to a large "dip" in the ground. Here you can find rats, skeletons, and other monsters that will fuel your leveling up to level four.
