Enhancement. Ask any elite pioneer in Granado Espada, and they'll be able to offer you a dissertation on the subject. It's a craft practiced by some of the most noticeable characters in the New World, with Soho and Idge among them. For pioneers, it can often mean the difference between life and death.
To enhance a weapon or armor, simply visit an enhancement NPC in any major city. You can use Vis to enhance any item to +4 without risk. Once you try to advance beyond +4 however, there is a risk the process will break your item, making it forever unusable.
The success percentage for enhancing is as follows:

Less than 2% for +10! What's the point you say? Well for one, you don't have to go that far, but there are two major advantages from increasing your items above +4.
First, +5 and above will give the item an increase in ATK/DEF rating, depending on the type of item. The benefits are listed below:

Also, starting with +5, every enhancement level will give your weapon a more vibrant glow.

So how can I get to +6 and above without risking my equipment?
Easy. The Granado Espada Premium Item Mall offers two valuable items to help you get that weapon enhanced to an eye-popping shimmer.
First, enhancement boosters. These relatively cheap items (only 550 G-points each) will double the success rate of your enhancement. With enhancement boosters, moving your item to +5 becomes guaranteed success, and +6 would carry a 50% success rate.
Second, Impervium. Even with enhancement boosters, there is still a chance your item will break, and that chance increases with every enhancement. If you use impervium with your enhancement boosters, a failed enhancement will not break your item. However, it will return your item to its original status (essentially +0).
Now there's no excuse for not enhancing your items, so don't be caught with a dull weapon!
